The Problem
Challenges we solve on DHgate
DHgate sits awkwardly between retail and wholesale — small lot sizes, cross-border shipping and buyers who behave like consumers but order like resellers. Twelve problems below.
Priced as pure bulk
Bulk-only pricing on a marketplace where most buyers start at one to ten units and grow from there.
Slow buyer response
Buyers messaging several sellers at once and ordering from whoever answers first with real information.
Seller level drifting down
Rating, dispute rate and shipping performance sliding, quietly restricting exposure across the whole store.
Disputes lost by default
Buyer protection cases unanswered inside the window, so refunds and rating damage both land.
Incomplete listing attributes
Required fields left blank, so products never appear in the filtered browsing buyers rely on.
Wrong shipping method per lane
One shipping option applied globally, so delivery times collapse in the longest corridors.
Invisible in DHgate search
Keyword coverage built from your product naming rather than how cross-border resellers search.
Advertising run without structure
One campaign carrying the whole catalog, so nothing can be judged, paused or scaled on its own numbers.
Compliance risk ignored
Branded or restricted items listed without checking policy, then removed along with the store rating.
No dropshipper programme
The reseller buyers who become repeat volume treated as a nuisance rather than a segment.
No view of true profitability
Commission, shipping, disputes and refunds sitting outside the reporting entirely.
Managed as a side channel
One person covering several marketplaces, so rating drift and stock issues are found too late.

Profile
Seller account & storefront management
Your storefront and seller level are the shortlisting mechanism. A reseller comparing five sellers checks rating, dispute rate and shipping performance before they read a single product description.
- Seller account management — users, settings, notifications and policy standing
- Seller level and rating maintained as commercial metrics rather than vanity ones
- Storefront layout, product grouping and featured product selection
- Company and capability content written for a reseller audience
- Certifications and compliance documentation where the category requires them
- Trade capability detail — lot sizes, lead times, sample policy and terms
- Promotion and coupon configuration across the storefront
- Membership tier and showcase allocation reviewed against search competition
- Response rate, dispute rate and transaction history monitored weekly
Same operating discipline as our eCommerce management service, applied to a cross-border wholesale seller account.
Catalog
Wholesale catalog & lot pricing
DHgate buyers sit between consumer and wholesale. The listing has to work for someone buying three units to test and for someone buying three hundred, which makes the lot and price structure the most important thing on the page.
Buyer Research
- Keyword research from cross-border reseller behaviour
- Competitor seller and price-ladder benchmarking
- Category and attribute requirement mapping
Listing Content
- Titles built to how resellers search, within character limits
- Full specification tables and material detail
- Variation and option structure that does not confuse the lot size
- Compliance and category restriction checks before listing
Commercial Structure
- Lot sizes set so small buyers can start and large ones get rewarded
- Tier pricing that moves order sizes up rather than protecting the floor
- Shipping cost built into the pricing decision, not bolted on after
- Sample and trial-order policy designed to open accounts
Optimization
- Information completeness tracked product by product
- Search visibility by keyword and product line
- Conversion and inquiry rate by product and buyer type
- Continuous updates on a documented cycle
The most common structural mistake here is a minimum lot that filters out the exact buyers who would have grown into volume accounts within a year.
Organic
DHgate search visibility
DHgate search weighs keyword relevance, information completeness, sales history, price competitiveness and seller performance together. Keyword work alone addresses one of five.
- Keyword research from cross-border reseller search behaviour
- Product title optimization within character limits and for mobile truncation
- Attribute completeness, which drives the filtered browsing buyers rely on
- Category placement and product grouping
- Specification depth as a relevance and quality input
- Sales history and price competitiveness as ranking evidence
- Seller level, rating and shipping performance as visibility inputs
- Competitor seller visibility and price-position tracking
- Ongoing optimization cycles rather than a one-off listing rewrite
Marketplace search and web search are different disciplines. Our web methodology is on the eCommerce SEO page.
Paid
Sponsored advertising & buyer acquisition
Paid placement on DHgate works when it is structured by what each product can afford to pay for a buyer. One campaign carrying the whole catalog is the most common inherited mistake.
- Sponsored product placement in search and category browsing
- Campaign structure by product line, margin band and objective
- Keyword and product targeting with negative discipline reviewed weekly
- Bid management by placement and competitive position
- Budget pacing built around promotional windows and category peaks
- Coupon and promotion interaction modelled rather than managed separately
- Landing product selection so the ad and the lot structure match intent
- Performance measured against contribution after commission and shipping
- Interaction between paid placement and organic visibility managed deliberately
Our wider paid media methodology sits on the PPC & paid advertising page.
Pipeline
Buyer inquiry & order management
DHgate has a checkout, but the accounts worth having still start with a conversation. The funnel runs from visibility to a repeat reseller account through messaging, samples and reliable delivery.
Visibility
Buyer inquiry
Sample order
First wholesale order
Repeat account
Response Coverage
- Buyer messaging staffed against destination time zones
- First-reply templates that answer rather than greet
- Response rate protected because it feeds visibility
Quotation Quality
- Structured quotes with tier pricing and lead times
- Shipping options and delivery windows stated up front
- Customisation and branding capability set out clearly
Disputes & Protection
- Buyer-protection cases answered inside the response window
- Dispute root causes traced back to listing accuracy
- Refund and replacement policy applied consistently
Account Development
- Every inquiry tracked through to order and outcome
- Repeat-order prompts and dropshipper conversion
- Win and loss reasons recorded and fed back into listings
Disputes on DHgate are usually a listing problem wearing an operations costume. Most of them trace back to a specification the buyer could not find before ordering.
Content
Product content & creative
Cross-border resellers are buying stock they will resell to someone else, so they need to know exactly what arrives. Eight asset types below, in the order they usually earn their production cost.

Specification graphics

Variation imagery

Lot & packaging visuals

Tier pricing graphics
Search: wholesale tier pricing table graphic design
Storefront banner set
Search: ecommerce brand storefront page design mockup
- Product imagery that shows construction and finish rather than lifestyle context
- Scale references, because resellers cannot judge size from a studio shot
- Specification graphics carrying the detail that prevents disputes
- Variation imagery so options are chosen correctly the first time
- Material and detail shots for categories where quality is the objection
- Lot and packaging visuals so buyers know exactly what arrives in the carton
- Tier pricing presented visually so buyers self-qualify before messaging
- Storefront creative that makes a small seller look like a reliable supplier

Cross-Border
Cross-border selling & fulfilment strategy
Almost every DHgate order crosses a border, which means shipping method, delivery promise and duty treatment are commercial decisions rather than logistics admin. Getting them wrong shows up in your dispute rate before it shows up in your margin.
Market selection
Lot & pricing

Delivery promise
Acceptance
Repeat account
Market Prioritisation
- Destination market selection by category demand and shipping economics
- Buyer-type profiling — dropshipper, small reseller or regional distributor
- Restricted and regulated product screening per destination
Shipping Strategy
- Shipping method selected per corridor and per weight band
- Delivery windows stated honestly, because the promise sets the dispute risk
- Tracking coverage and handover performance monitored per lane
Landed Economics
- Pricing modelled on landed cost including shipping and payment fees
- Duty and de minimis thresholds factored into lot-size decisions
- Dispute and refund cost priced into product margin, not discovered later
Account Development
- Dropshipper programme with packaging and turnaround standards
- First-order to repeat-order follow-through as a defined process
- Buyer expansion across your product range once trust is established
On a cross-border marketplace the conversion that matters is not the order — it is the parcel arriving as described, on time, without a case being opened.
Health
Seller performance & account health
The monitoring layer. On DHgate, seller level, dispute rate and shipping performance restrict exposure directly, so this is watched weekly rather than quarterly.
- Seller level and rating monitored component by component
- Dispute and refund rate analysis by product and by reason
- Buyer-protection cases answered inside the required response window
- Response rate and response time tracked against platform expectations
- Shipping performance and on-time delivery by corridor
- Listing status — removed, restricted, deboosted and out-of-stock items
- Inventory and availability monitoring across lot sizes
- Pricing and price-competitiveness monitoring by category
- Operational reporting with an exception list rather than a data dump
How It Works
Our DHgate growth process
Six steps. Seller health sits underneath all of them, because visibility on this platform is gated by performance before it is gated by relevance.
01
Audit
Seller level, storefront, catalog, lot and price structure, search visibility, advertising, dispute history and shipping performance reviewed together. You keep the document either way.
02
Research
Keyword and competitor research from reseller behaviour, plus a landed-cost contribution model with commission, shipping, duty and disputes in it.
03
Build the Strategy
A twelve-month plan covering storefront, catalog, pricing architecture, search, advertising and inquiry handling, with named owners and stage targets.
04
Setup & Optimize
Seller health and catalog first, because advertising into a suppressed account buys clicks and disputes in roughly equal measure.
05
Market & Manage
Sponsored placement, promotions, creative and day-to-day buyer messaging run together on a weekly rhythm.
06
Measure & Scale
Contribution and dispute rate monitored weekly, then scaling — more SKUs, a dropshipper programme, or additional destination markets.
Fixing dispute rate before increasing ad spend is the cheapest sequencing decision available here, and it is almost always a listing-accuracy problem rather than an operations one.

Why Us

FAQs
DHgate FAQs
Eight questions that come up in most DHgate conversations. More on our full FAQ page.
How is DHgate different from Alibaba.com and AliExpress?
It sits between them. Alibaba.com is bulk B2B built around inquiries, quotations and container-scale orders. AliExpress is retail, one unit at a time, to consumers. DHgate is small-lot wholesale — buyers who are reselling, but who order in tens and hundreds rather than thousands. That middle position is why the pricing ladder matters so much: the listing has to serve someone testing with five units and someone reordering three hundred, without giving away the margin on either.
What lot size should we set?
Lower than most sellers instinctively want. A high minimum feels like it protects margin, but on DHgate it mostly filters out the buyers who would have become repeat volume accounts. The pattern we see repeatedly is a small entry tier that loses nothing, followed by breaks that genuinely reward larger orders. We model it per product line rather than setting one number across the catalog.
Our dispute rate is high. What actually fixes it?
Listing accuracy, nine times out of ten. Most disputes trace back to something the buyer could not find before ordering — a dimension, a voltage, a material, a compatibility detail, a realistic delivery window. We audit disputes by reason, fix the listings that generate them, and then staff case response inside the required window. Operations changes come third, not first.
Does seller level really affect sales?
Yes, and more than the badge suggests. Seller level, rating, dispute rate and shipping performance all feed into how much visibility your listings get. A suppressed account paying for sponsored placement is buying clicks into a throttled position, which is the most expensive way to trade here. We fix health before we increase spend.
Should we run a dropshipper programme?
Usually yes, if your packaging and turnaround can support it. Dropshippers look small and awkward individually, but they cost almost nothing to acquire once the listing exists, and a meaningful share grow into steady repeat accounts. It works best as a defined programme with its own packaging standards and turnaround commitment rather than as an exception you tolerate.
How do you handle shipping across so many countries?
By choosing the method per corridor rather than globally. Shipping cost and transit time vary enormously by lane and weight band, and the delivery window you promise sets your dispute risk. We model landed cost including shipping, payment fees and duty treatment, then set the promise conservatively enough that it holds.
Can you manage DHgate alongside AliExpress?
Yes, and many sellers run both. The catalogs, pricing and creative benefit from being planned together, with the differences respected rather than flattened — AliExpress buyers are consumers, DHgate buyers are reselling, and the same listing rarely serves both well. See AliExpress or all platforms we support.
Who owns the DHgate account?
You do, always. We work under our own user permissions inside your account. If the relationship ends, we remove our access and everything — storefront, listings, creative, campaigns, documentation — stays with you.
Find out whether your DHgate store is actually profitable
Book a DHgate audit. We will review seller level, catalog, lot and price structure, search visibility, advertising, dispute history and your real landed economics, and tell you which two things to fix first — whether or not you hire us.
