Etsy SEO, listing photography and copy, shop branding, Etsy Ads and the day-to-day shop operations — managed by a team that understands Etsy search is not Google and does not pretend otherwise.

- Listing photography and shop branding handled as the conversion lever they are

The Problem
Etsy seller challenges we solve
Etsy rewards relevance, listing quality and customer experience in ways that reward small sellers who do the basics properly. Most shops are losing on one of those three.
Tags used as an afterthought
Thirteen tag slots filled with single words and near-duplicates at upload time, which is most of the free relevance signal thrown away.
Photography that undersells the work
A well-made product photographed on a kitchen table in daylight, competing against shops with a lightbox and a styling budget.
Titles written for humans only
A charming title with no searchable phrase in the first forty characters, which is the part Etsy weighs most.
Stale listings nobody refreshes
Listings that auto-renew for years with no title, tag or photo change and a quietly declining conversion rate.
Etsy Ads set and forgotten
A daily budget set at signup, spread across every listing including the ones that never convert, reviewed never.
Offsite Ads misunderstood
A 12% or 15% fee arriving on orders nobody expected, with no view of whether the channel is profitable at that rate.
Star Seller status missed
Message response time, dispatch and reviews just under threshold, losing the badge and the visibility that comes with it.
Shop branding that stops at the logo
No banner, thin About section, no cohesive photography style, so the shop reads as a hobby rather than a business.
Shipping profiles costing margin
Free shipping offered without pricing it in, or shipping so high it loses the sale at the last step.
Reviews left to chance
No post-purchase follow-up, no insert, no photo request — in a marketplace where review volume is a ranking and trust input.
Variations and personalization chaos
Options set up inconsistently, so buyers order the wrong thing and the shop absorbs the return.
The maker doing everything
Production, listings, marketing, packing and customer service in one pair of hands, so marketing is whatever is left over.
What We Do

Operations
Shop management & daily operations
Lighter than a large marketplace, but it still has to happen every week. Documented, scheduled and visible to you.
- Shop settings, policies, About section and announcement maintenance
- Listing creation, renewal decisions and bulk edits
- Pricing, sales, coupons and Etsy promotion participation
- Shop sections and storefront organization
- Shipping profiles, processing times and free-shipping economics
- Message handling standards and response-time protection
- Reviews — post-purchase follow-up and response to critical reviews
- Performance reporting on visits, conversion, revenue and fees
- Ongoing optimization queued weekly and prioritised by likely revenue impact
Same operating model as our eCommerce management service, scaled down to what an Etsy shop actually needs.
Catalog
Listings, variations & shop structure
Etsy catalogs are smaller than marketplace catalogs and every listing matters more. The work is depth per listing rather than bulk operations.
Research
- Etsy search-term research and long-tail discovery
- Competitor listing and price-position analysis
- Category and attribute requirement mapping
Listing Content
- Titles with the searchable phrase in the first forty characters
- All thirteen tags used as distinct multi-word phrases
- Attributes and categories completed properly
- Descriptions that answer questions before they become messages
Structure
- Shop sections that match how buyers browse
- Variations and personalization set up so buyers cannot order wrong
- Digital and physical listing handling
- Renewal and refresh cycles on ageing listings
Optimization
- Visits and favourites tracked listing by listing
- Search-term performance from Etsy Stats
- Conversion rate by listing and traffic source
- Continuous refresh rather than a one-off rewrite
Thirteen tags is the most under-used free asset on Etsy. Using them as thirteen distinct multi-word phrases is usually the fastest visibility gain available.
Organic
Etsy SEO & organic visibility
Etsy search weighs relevance, listing quality score, recency, customer experience, shipping price and shop location together. Tags alone address one of six.
- Etsy search-term research including long-tail and seasonal phrases
- Title optimization with the priority phrase placed in the first forty characters
- All thirteen tags used as distinct multi-word phrases, not synonyms
- Attributes and category placement, which feed both relevance and filters
- Listing quality score — the click and conversion history Etsy learns from
- Recency handling through deliberate renewal and refresh cycles
- Shipping price and free-shipping guarantee effects on placement
- Competitor visibility and search-position tracking over time
- Ongoing optimization cycles rather than a one-off listing rewrite
Etsy search and Google search are different systems with different inputs. Our Google methodology is on the eCommerce SEO page, and Etsy listings can rank there too.
Paid
Etsy Ads & Offsite Ads strategy
Etsy Ads is a small, simple system that punishes inattention. Offsite Ads is a fee structure that needs modelling rather than an opinion.
- Etsy Ads budget set against what the shop can actually absorb, not the default
- Listing selection — advertising the listings that convert, not the whole shop
- Bid and budget pacing reviewed weekly rather than left running
- Search-term analysis from Etsy Ads reporting and negative signal handling
- Offsite Ads fee modelling at 12% and 15% against real contribution margin
- Pricing strategy that absorbs Offsite Ads fees where the channel is mandatory
- Seasonal budget planning around Etsy’s own traffic peaks
- External traffic strategy — social, email and Pinterest into Etsy listings
- Advertising performance measured against total shop contribution
Our wider paid media methodology sits on the PPC & paid advertising page.
Creative
Photography, listing creative & shop branding
On Etsy the photography is the product page. Eight asset types below, in roughly the order they move conversion for a handmade shop.
Hero product shot
Search: handmade product photography styled flat lay
Lifestyle / in-situ
Search: handmade ceramics styled interior lifestyle
Scale reference
Search: product size comparison photography hand
Detail & texture

Process / maker shots

Variation grid

Listing video
Search: short form product demo video production
Shop banner & branding
Search: craft brand identity banner design mockup
- Hero photography with consistent lighting and background across the shop
- Lifestyle and in-situ shots that show the piece in a real room or on a real person
- Scale references, because size confusion is the leading cause of Etsy returns
- Detail and texture shots that justify a handmade price point
- Process and maker imagery, which is the reason buyers choose Etsy over Amazon
- Variation imagery so options are chosen correctly the first time
- Short listing video, which Etsy surfaces prominently in search and on the listing
- Shop banner, logo, About section imagery and a coherent visual identity
Full creative process and portfolio on our creative & content page. Placeholders above carry the stock search terms to replace them with.
Conversion
Conversion & shop performance optimization
You do not control checkout, so optimization means everything upstream. On Etsy, photography and shipping presentation carry most of the conversion weight.

Purchase
Positioning
- Price position against comparable handmade listings
- Title and tags aligned to buying intent
- Personalization and made-to-order expectations set clearly
Presentation
- Photo order — hero, scale, detail, process, in that sequence
- Description structure and the questions it pre-empts
- Shipping cost, processing time and delivery estimate clarity
Trust
- Reviews, review photos and response to critical reviews
- About section and maker story as trust evidence
- Shop policies, returns and message response time
Alignment
- Etsy Ads spend aligned to listings that convert
- Listing refresh cycles on ageing items
- Conversion rate tracked by listing and traffic source
Size and scale confusion is the most common cause of Etsy returns and critical reviews. One scale-reference photo per listing fixes more than most copy changes.
Health
Shop performance & Star Seller standards
Lighter than a large marketplace, but Star Seller status affects visibility and buyer trust, so the metrics behind it are worth managing deliberately.
- Star Seller criteria — message response, dispatch on time and review rating
- Message response time protected with templates and a defined handling window
- Dispatch and processing times set honestly and then met
- Review rating monitoring and structured response to critical reviews
- Listing status — expired, deactivated and sold-out handling
- Inventory and made-to-order capacity coordination
- Shop policy, returns and personalization terms kept current
- Fee tracking — listing, transaction, payment processing and Offsite Ads
- Operational reporting with an exception list rather than a data dump
How It Works
Our Etsy growth process
Six steps. On Etsy the audit is quick and the optimization work is deep, because there are fewer listings and each one carries more weight.
01
Audit
Shop, listings, tags, photography, branding, Etsy Ads, fees and Star Seller status reviewed together. You keep the document either way.
02
Research
Etsy search-term research, competitor and price-position analysis, plus a profitability model with listing, transaction, payment and Offsite Ads fees in it.
03
Build the Strategy
A twelve-month plan with a detailed first ninety days, named owners, target metrics and the sequence work will run in.
04
Optimize & Implement
Tags, titles and photography first, because those are free levers and they compound before any ad spend does.
05
Advertise & Grow
Etsy Ads restructured onto converting listings, plus external traffic from social and email where it is worth building.
06
Monitor & Scale
Star Seller and conversion monitoring, then scaling — more listings, new categories, or a Shopify store alongside the shop.
Turning on Etsy Ads before fixing tags and photography is the most common expensive mistake on this platform. The free levers move first.

How does Etsy SEO differ from Google SEO?
Etsy ranks within its own marketplace using relevance from your title, tags, attributes and category, plus listing quality score, recency, customer experience, shipping price and shop location. There is no backlink component and no domain authority. It rewards specific multi-word phrases and punishes vague titles. Etsy listings can also rank in Google, which is a separate opportunity and a separate piece of work.
Do all thirteen tags really matter?
Yes, and they are the most under-used free asset on the platform. Each should be a distinct multi-word phrase a buyer might actually type, not a synonym of the last one. Filling all thirteen with genuinely different phrases is normally the fastest visibility gain available on a shop that has never done it.
Should I turn on Etsy Ads?
Only after tags, titles and photography are right, and only on listings with proven conversion. Advertising a listing that converts at 0.6% is buying traffic for a page that cannot use it. Once the free levers are working, a small, tightly targeted Etsy Ads budget is usually worth running.
Can I opt out of Offsite Ads?
If your shop has made under 10,000 US dollars in the last 365 days you can opt out and the fee is 15% on attributed orders. Once you cross that threshold participation is mandatory and the fee drops to 12%. Either way it needs to be in your pricing model, because it arrives as a percentage of the order value on sales you did not choose to pay for.
How important is Star Seller?
It affects buyer trust through the badge and it correlates with visibility. The criteria are message response time, dispatch on time with tracking, and review rating, measured over a rolling window. It is operational discipline rather than marketing, and it is achievable for most shops within two review periods once the process is fixed.
Do you do the photography yourselves?
We art-direct and produce it, either in studio or by directing your shoot with a shot list and styling brief. For handmade shops the process and maker imagery usually has to be shot where the work happens, so a hybrid is common: we shoot the hero and detail work, you capture process to our brief.
Should I move off Etsy to Shopify?
Not instead of — usually alongside, and usually later than people think. Etsy brings you buyers you would otherwise pay to acquire. A Shopify store gives you a customer list, brand control and better margins. The right sequence is normally to grow the Etsy shop until it can fund the store, then run both. See our Shopify page.
Who owns the shop and the accounts?
You do, always. We work under our own access inside your shop. If the relationship ends, we remove our access and everything — listings, photography, branding files, documentation — stays with you.
Find out what your Etsy shop is leaving on the table
Book an Etsy audit. We will review your tags, titles, photography, branding, ads, fees and Star Seller status, and tell you which two things to fix first — whether or not you hire us.
